This palace is situated on a lovely island in the middle of the Chiemsee, the sea of \u200b\u200bthe Bavarians. To view this magnificent I highly recommend boarding the ferry to get there before nine so you can catch the first ferry to the island, so we will have the chance to see everything there is to do with relative calm and tranquility.
We start therefore from Gossensaß around 6:30 with a short stop for a hearty breakfast at the Brenner. Unbelievable cold up here ... that is and we are in the middle of summer and the bar has a heating function. After the break we put on the highway (it is mandatory to expose the Austrian vignette on the windscreen) and we head for Innsbruck before and Monaco / Salzburg then, we go out and head toward Bernau Prien from where ferries depart.
We arrive at the parking lot 20 minutes before nine o'clock, just in time to look around and find the ticket office of the shipping company Chiemsee Schifffahrt where do the ticket. Complied with this odious practice, we embark on a typical paddle wheel.
The strange thing is that to access on board do not ask us to show them but they will arrive when to get off the boat. The weather is wonderful and hot, nothing to do with the cold Brenner, We settle on the deck on comfortable benches to enjoy the trip on this great and peaceful stretch of water.
This lake was created 15/20, 000 years ago and is the largest body of water Bavarian (80 sq. km. A circumference of 64 km.). In the summer is a paradise not only for bathing and water sports enthusiasts but also to a large number of birds that nest primarily in the delta of the Tiroler Ache. In the middle of the lake there are two inhabited islands: Herreninsel (Isle of Lords) and Fraueninsel (Island of Women).
While intrigued by the latter island for obvious reasons, my goal and Herreninsel with its spectacular castle.
After 15 minutes of sailing, we are in view of our island was purchased by King Ludwig II of Bavaria for you to build his new castle.
we arrive at a small pier
and we head to the nearest ticket office, bought tickets we head briskly through a park, the castle to avoid the crush of other ferries that have poured in a little while throngs of tourists on the island. In fact, we get immense and choreographed the castle forecourt where we find very few people.
The monumental fountains are in operation and provide a superb spectacle, these fountains are not running continuously but are activated for a few minutes of arrival at the various ferries.
we do not even enchanted by the impressive display and immediately enter the castle.
We are the first and we can enjoy a visit to relax.
This sumptuous baroque palace is the last building and, simultaneously, the most magnificent that Ludowig II, a lover of art and music, he built before his mysterious disappearance.
Herrenchiemsee would have to overcome in its implementation, its model: the castle of Versailles of Louis XVI. Although it was never completed, the palace is a perfect staging of pure beauty. Suffice it to mention the magnificent Hall of Mirrors, which turns out to be even larger than the corresponding French gallery.
Ben 13 the design proceeded to the execution of the work. In 1878 he began building the plans of Georg Dollmann. In 1886, Ludwig's death, the castle was not finished yet. Later, some parts were demolished, but despite the incompleteness of the project, the whole site has an amazing charm.
Inside the castle you can not take pictures, but evading the surveillance, I still "caught" some instant.
The tour starts passing atrium and vestibule where is the control of the ticket, in these two areas there is nothing to indicate if not the grandeur of monumental volumes and a jar of Italian marble with a pair of peacocks in bronze and polychrome enamel.
The third compartment striking scenery and colors are in grand staircase that faithfully reproduces that of ambassadors in Versailles demolished in 1752, the only difference is the glass cover that makes this environment very bright. Statues and friezes are stucco and the Bohemian crystal chandeliers and gilded bronze with 252 candles.
After the staircase leads to the guardroom body whose walls are covered with polychrome stucco and exhibiting the halberds bodyguards of the kings of Bavaria. This is also a replica of homology "Salles des Gardes" at Versailles. On the walls paintings representing war campaigns of Louis XIV and marble busts depicting the marshals of the Sun King
Sign in now to first antechamber characterized by white panels with gold tooling on the walls and curtains in purple silk with gold embroidery. You hit the bulky presence of a closet with unfinished veneered in tortoise pond and made to contain musical instruments.
The second antechamber have panels similar to the first and has doors covered with mirrors. Two other mirrors (the largest in the castle) occupy the courtyard walls and endlessly reflecting the three crystal chandeliers with 270 candles total.
We are now in bedroom representation . From the ceremonial court of Louis XIV, we know that the bedroom was used for the first and last day of the hearing. Compared to the corresponding room in Versailles, much smaller and simpler, this sumptuous room (never used by the king) is the ultimate in luxury and opulence of the furnishings. The jambs to doors and fireplaces in marble of Carrara. The bed is arranged like a spectacularly carved and gilded altar and, all around a triumph of red curtains embroidered with gold and silver, gilded stucco on the walls. Groped to describe this room is impossible.
he recovered from his surprise visit to proceed boardroom also very luxurious. White paneling on the walls with rich gold tooling. The fireplace and a large mirror on a wall adjacent a portrait of Louis XIV with his diplomatic successes on the four paintings sopraporte. The painting on the ceiling depicting the gods of Olympus.
And now we come to what the environment is more impressive than the castle: the Great Hall of Mirrors . For this large hall made three in 1879 and 1881 to a design by G. Dolmann, Ludwig wanted an exact replica of the ballroom of Versailles. However long the tunnel 98 meters in length than the French and with two rooms of the corner (the War Room and the Hall of Peace) occupies the entire front overlooking the garden. The walls are covered with polished stucco gray and green. On the outer wall opening 17 arched windows flanked by columns and red faced, on the opposite wall, by four mirrors. The ceiling shows the successes of Louis XIV by the peace of the Pyrenees (1659) at the University of Nijmegen (1678). The candles of the chandeliers and 33 of the 44 candles were lit only by the king in his Castles led a life almost exclusively at night. Unfortunately, the room actually looks cluttered with many chairs as there are concerts of symphonic music, and this makes it less attractive, the living room but I was lucky enough to visit some fifteen years ago and I could admire it like in the picture below.
We have not been able to visit the two rooms corner, so we went directly into the small apartment that is in the king's private areas normally frequented by the king.
We go straight into bedroom , even here the alcove room, paneled in white and gold, is divided from the rest of the room by a carved and gilded balustrade. On the ceiling, gilded stucco and groups of mythological figures. Tents and covers are in blue silk embroidered with gold. A blue glass ball on a richly carved gilt stand served as a night light.
The next room is the study of King with paneled walls and white gold. On the far wall a portrait of Louis XV of France while sopraporte are represented in some battles of that sovereign. The curtains are green with gold embroidery. The desk at gate is a copy of a piece of furniture made for Louis XV. Very beautiful are the two astronomical clocks and the elephant in this room.
Continuing the tour we arrived in blue lounge (first cabinet of mirrors). The paneling, white with gilded carvings of branches and foliage with birds with iridescent colors, mirrors which are inserted into the recess of the sofa arrangement creates the illusion of a parade of salt that is repeated endlessly. The ceiling is decorated with hunting scenes and gilded stucco.
We are now in dining , an oval room. Even here, the walls, white panels with allegorical figures carved ornaments and mirrors. The ceiling plaster cherubs and gold on a blue background. At the center stands the so-called "table set" that was dropped on the ground floor with a sort of elevator hidden in the floor unit from the servitude and goes back upstairs. This allowed the king, as the castle of Linderhof, to dine without the presence of service personnel. The great chandelier
a magnificent basket of flowers on the table, the vessels and watches are precious Meissen porcelain. The curtains are red damask embroidered with gold.
The dining room can take a look at Porcelain Cabinet , this is a genuine triumph Favor of precious Meissen porcelain.
Leaving the dining room, admire the small gallery with lounge corner.
As the great gallery mirrors it is connected with two ante-square. The walls are covered with polychrome stucco. The vaults and the two corner rooms are decorated with mythological frescoes. Tents and coverings of the stools are red-purple velvet with gold embroidery.
Through the space of staircase north return to the floor. After the death of the sovereign decoration and furniture provided for this staircase were never realized. The staircase is impressive but also to the country.
the ground floor, in a through room we can see the elevator carrying the table set on the main floor.
The next room is the bathroom . It is an oval room with a huge marble bath, a real swimming pool. At issue are the frescoes on the walls.
The next room is the locker room (second hall of mirrors) that is connected with a staircase to the bedroom. The paneling is enriched with large mirrors and inserted by a profusion of gilded carvings (trunks of palm trees and foliage with iridescent birds). This decoration reflected in the mirrors thereby arousing llusione of being in the midst of a golden forest.
This was the last luxurious environment to visitors.
Back in the hall, make a quick detour to bookshop and then visit the Museum of King Ludwig II located in the south wing of the building.
In 12 rooms specially processed, shows the life of the king and presented portraits, busts, historic photographs and original state robes.
as patron of the composer Richard Wagner, the King had a great importance in music. In reference to this issue, we are exposed portraits, documents, sketches, models of theaters and scenery. All the royal castles are documented as well as other building projects Ludwig. Sumptuous furniture that originally stood in the destroyed residence in Monaco or the first bedroom Linderhof represent some of the highlights of the museum.
luxury items and original craft creations, made on behalf of the king, demonstrate the importance of European art at the court of Monaco in the second half of the nineteenth century.
Tired much beauty we go out to the glare of the morning. The fountains are back in operation, and now can spend time on a walk in the beautiful royal gardens and park that stretch around the castle.
The fountain dedicated to Leto is decorated with mythological figures;
the sparkling fountains attracted our attention.
Other monumental fountains cool, with their splashes, warm day summer.
A few steps from the palace, peaceful walks us for walks in the woods of coniferous trees, manicured lawns and idyllic tree-lined avenues. The views that overlook the lake and nearby mountains make sense because so much King Ludwig II loved this place.
