L Apponale tower, a symbol of Riva del Garda , rises to 34 meters on the east side of Piazza III November, and was built in the thirteenth century with stone blocks of different sizes to guard the port and the square, the ancient center of commerce and trade fairs. It was part of the main defense of the city along with Rocca with which, it seems, has been connected by a tunnel passing under the lake. The tower was raised in 1555.
In the twenties of last century the tower was affected by structural changes that led to replace the old roof of the onion tower, reminiscent of Nordic inspiration the roofs of the towers of northern Europe, with the ' existing roof.
Since 2002, after a complete renovation, it is possible to go from March to October the 165 steps leading to the summit.
From the belfry dominates the geometry of the square that borders the pier, the town of Riva and the waters blue of the Garda.
